The police say the suspect called the victim an “old hag” before punching her, resulting in hospitalization. Southwest Airlines is investigating the incident when a passenger allegedly assaulted an employee in-flight after they asked them to stop playing on their phone. The three passengers aboard Flight 1421 from Chicago to Sacramento were reportedly shocked by the event and witnessed what happened, with one even shooting video of it that has been circulating online since being released.

In an email to CNN, Southwest confirmed the incident, saying the female passenger “verbally and violently” attacked a female operations agent, who was hospitalized as a result of the attack.

The incident occurred immediately after the rowdy passenger was ordered to leave an aircraft destined for New York City’s La Guardia Airport shortly after boarding, at Dallas’ Love Field Airport.
Arielle Jean Jackson, 32, had a verbal confrontation with an operations agent at the rear of the plane shortly after boarding, which resulted in her being forced to quit the plane. Jackson got into a second verbal confrontation with a different agent as she was exiting the cabin, and this time attacked the employee with a “closed fist on the head,” according to Dallas Police.
Jackson was taken into custody right after by Dallas police, who informed CNN that she was being charged with aggravated assault and that she was being detained on a $10,000 bail. The attack victim was transferred to a nearby hospital, but was discharged late Saturday night to rest at home.
“Southwest Airlines has a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of harassment or violence, and we completely back our employee as we work with local authorities to resolve this deplorable situation,” the company said.
According to The Hill, the rise in unruly passenger behavior, which includes an unprecedented number of verbal and physical attacks on airline employees and fellow passengers, prompted six Democratic lawmakers to write to the Department of Justice earlier this month, requesting that the Attorney General prosecute passengers who cause such disruptions.
Part of the letter said, “It is well established that our country has observed a substantial rise in air and airport confrontational conduct, especially since the commencement of the COVID-19 epidemic.”
Last Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that it had penalized ten such airline passengers a total of $225,000, and that it would be reporting some of the more severe incidents of physical abuse by passengers to the Federal Bureau of Investigation the week before (FBI).
