Norwegian Cruise Line has been ordered to stop operating from the port of New York after a series of engine problems. The company is now planning to restart operations in June, with a new ship and a new itinerary.
Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that they will be resuming operations from New York in 2021.
Norwegian Cruise Line, headquartered in Miami, currently has six ships in service throughout the globe, with Norwegian Breakaway departing from New York City’s Manhattan Terminal today. It’s a significant step forward for the cruise line, which has been gradually resuming operations.
The Norwegian Breakaway will operate excursions to Bermuda until early November, following which the ship will relocate to New Orleans, Louisiana, where it will remain until April 2022.
Bound for Bermuda
The Norwegian Breakaway is the second big cruise ship to depart from the Port of New York. For a long now, Oasis of the Seas has been running Bahamas trips out of Bayonne, New Jersey, so cruise customers in the New York region now have even more spectacular cruise ships to select from.
Norwegian Breakaway is the first ship of the Breakaway class, with a gross tonnage of 146,000 tons; Norwegian Getaway is the second ship. On April 30, 2013, the ship set sail for the first time.

The Bermuda cruises offered by Norwegian Breakaway will provide visitors with an in-depth look at the island. The ship will spend the next two days at sea before docking at King’s Wharf in Bermuda for three days before returning to New York City.
The 3,963-passenger Breakaway-class ship will sail to Bermuda on six cruises before departing on her repositioning cruise to New Orleans on November 7, which will include stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Curacao, Aruba, Colon, Panama, Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, the Cayman Islands, and Cozumel. The ship will set sail from New Orleans on an itinerary that includes stops at Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, Honduras, and Costa Maya, Mexico.
Onboard the Norwegian Breakaway, there is a focus on health and safety.
When passengers boarded Norwegian Breakaway at the Manhattan Terminal today, they were confident that their journey would be secure. The health and safety procedures that safeguard the ship and the staff members aboard have been strictly enforced by Norwegian Cruise Line.
Before embarking, all guests must be fully vaccinated; unvaccinated passengers will not be allowed to board Norwegian Cruise Line ships. When passengers arrived at the terminal today, they were subjected to extra testing at the cost of the cruise company.
