My Elite Status Strategy As I Approach The End Of The Year

As the end of the year approaches, I feel a sense of urgency to finish my travel plans. My friends and family members have been asking me for their impressions on places they enjoy visiting in particular cities. In order to make sure I am able to manage this task, here is how you can plan out your elite status strategy as you approach the end of 2018

One of the biggest challenges to travel is booking flights and accommodations for a trip. The best way to tackle them might be by using an open source program known as Skyscanner, which can help you find what your in search for with a few clicks or taps on a smartphone or tablet.

Delta status is a type of elite status that can be earned through a variety of methods. The “aa vs delta status” is a strategy for maximizing the number of points you will have at the end of the year.

As the year draws to a close, my Elite Status Strategy

I am compensated for the content and several links on my site. Citibank, American Express, Chase, Barclays, and Capital One are all advertising partners on this site. My advertising partners have not reviewed, authorized, or supported any of the thoughts stated in this article. I don’t write about all credit cards; instead, I concentrate on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). The offers and advantages described on this website are subject to the terms.

As the year draws to a close, with some programs (such as Delta SkyMiles, Hilton Honors, and Air Canada Aeroplan) simply extending elite status and others offering expedited paths to maintaining status, I took a look at where I stand and the small steps I needed to be aware of in order to keep my status or earn higher levels of status for the coming year.

I was an early proponent of the idea that some business trips would cease to exist, that talks could be delivered via Zoom – not in the same way as before, but at a much lower time cost to the speaker – and that there would be an equilibrium shift in which it would no longer be necessary to ‘show up in person’ to signal importance. Business travel will return next year, but not all trips will.

Nonetheless, in a society when employees are few and services are being curtailed, having a little status seems to be more vital than ever to make the travel we do bearable. Here’s my position:

  • American Airlines is an airline based in the United States. I’ve already requalified for Executive Platinum status based on $15,000 in credit card spend (and will do so again based on $2000 spend during the promo period on my next trip), but I’ll earn it based on this year’s reduced qualification criteria through various promotions, making me eligible for both the Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum Elite Choice Rewards.

  • Southwest Airlines is a low-cost carrier. Customers may re-up their status by taking four one-way travels over the course of three months. I’ve already booked three one-way flights and need to book a fourth within the next few weeks to retain my spot on the A-List for next year. Southwest Airlines is the largest airline at my local airport, and I utilize them for business travels to Washington National Airport, where they offer the sole nonstop flight (by law).

  • Hyatt With over 60 qualifying nights, I’ve requalified for Globalist status, which entitles me to full amenities including a private concierge and guaranteed suite upgrades. I’m using The World Of Hyatt Credit Card to push myself over the incremental 10-night requirements for subsequent confirmed suite upgrades, and I’m waiting until January to pick them so that their expiry is stretched out by another year. That will come in handy for guaranteed upgrades on stays in 2023 before I earn more suite upgrades from stays in 2022.
  • Marriott Bonvoy is a loyalty program offered by Marriott. For the first time, I’m going to achieve Titanium level. Marriott handed current elites half of the nights they required to keep their rank this year. As a Platinum member, I was entitled to 25 nights. Then, for a total of 55 nights, I got 15 nights each from the Marriott Bonvoy BusinessTM American Express® Card and the Marriott Bonvoy BrilliantTM American Express® Card.

After crossing 55 nights, I’ll be able to choose 5 extra elite nights as a bonus (from 50 nights). That brings me up to 60. This year, I’ve only been at Marriott locations for seven nights, but I’ve made bookings for another seven in the coming weeks, for a total of 74. So I just need one more night for Titanium, and I have three nights left on my credit card. I’ll simply use one of them on a local mattress run, searching for a hotel that doesn’t charge destination or resort fees on free nights, or points if a hotel is available at a bargain.

  • Hilton I just use my American Express The Platinum Card® to upgrade to Gold level, but you can do the same with the Hilton Honors American Express Business Card or the consumer Surpass card.
  • Hyatt has provided MGM M Life with this status.
  • United Airlines is an airline based in the United States. Because of my Marriott Titanium rating, I will be a Premier Silver.

  • Hertz. United elites with higher elite status than I used to get Presidents Club for free; I got mine via a status match because, as bad as this chain has been, they’ve consistently had the lowest costs, and I needed some energy after scavenging for the one vehicle available at the airport.

I have one trip and one hotel stay to schedule for my Southwest and Marriott statuses, as well as a bit more travel with American to re-up ‘real’ Executive Platinum status.

Delta status is given to members who reach a certain level of elite status on Delta Airlines. It’s the first thing I check when I’m booking my flight for the following year. Reference: do you get delta status immediately.
