India is opening its borders to travelers from 99 countries who have been vaccinated against the flu. India’s decision comes after six months of quarantine-free travel for citizens of these nations, during which time tourists can visit India without fear of being quarantined due to their potential exposure to diseases they may carry with them. The move will make it easier for health officials in both countries work together on public health measures that are essential when dealing with infectious or contagious diseases.
India has recently reopened its quarantine-free to vaccinated tourists from 99 countries. The country is now looking for ways to improve the process of issuing tourist visas.
India’s borders have reopened for quarantine-free travel to fully vaccinated visitors from 99 countries after being closed for 20 months due to the COVID-19.
India published amended rules this week that included a list of ‘Category A’ nations that either:
ADVERTISING
a) Have reciprocal vaccination certificates recognized by the Indian government for passengers inoculated with nationally or WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines, or;
b) Do not have such agreements in place, but enable fully vaccinated Indians to travel without limitations.
What’s Hot Right Now
Vaccinated tourists entering India from any of the nations on its Category A list are exempt from post-arrival COVID-19 testing and a seven-day quarantine requirement, instead being asked to monitor their symptoms for the next 14 days.
Travelers from Category A nations will be able to skip the quarantine process if they are properly vaccinated, even if their home country has been categorized as “at-risk.”
Unvaccinated tourists from Category A countries have extra restrictions upon arrival in India, including a post-arrival test, seven days of obligatory quarantine, a second test on the eighth day, and (if the second test is negative) seven days of self-monitoring for symptoms.
The United States, the United Kingdom (U.K.), Germany, France, Singapore, Australia, and Brazil are among the world’s biggest economies that made the Category A list.
Some of the 99 Category A countries, including European nations, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Singapore, and Brazil, are simultaneously categorized as “at-risk,” requiring unvaccinated tourists to follow extra entrance restrictions.
Travelers from countries that aren’t protected by Category A but aren’t expressly identified as “at-risk” will be permitted to enter India without quarantining and will be required to monitor their symptoms for 14 days regardless of vaccination status.
According to a CNBC report, many surrounding nations, such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia, were glaringly excluded from the Category A list. China, along with South Africa and New Zealand, does feature on India’s list of “at-risk” nations, albeit none of these countries made it into the Category A club.
International tourists, regardless of origin or vaccination status, must still undergo a pre-travel negative PCR test before boarding a flight to India.
